The web has no memory - unless it is created.

Dear Visitor

On September 11, 2001 we started to collect screen captures of news sites around the world, often the only recordings of this day in the online newsrooms. The September 11 collection has grown and served over 300'000 visitors with close to 3 Mio pageviews since.

This then, was a similar enterprise - an extension in a way. We wanted to make sure that many different views on how this worldcup developed were accessible and preserved. From game to game we added more local sites to show the variety of offers in each country.

We hope that this joyous event, the celebration of soccer, will be remembered through this site for what it is: an amazing gathering of people around the world, on the field, in bars, in homes, in parks for a common experience. Wether you like soccer or not - there is no doubt it is an outstanding and forceful glue to our world.

The collection hopefully also will help online news professionals to get a better idea on how the field is evolving. If you need more information on us or on the project, please contact us through here.

For more background on our other enterprises check the sites Interactive Publishing Conference/ Content Summit (European Media Conference), IPTOP Awards (European web sites), Catchup Communications AG (Consulting), Lately on the Web (Irregular Blog)

Thank you for your interest!
Norbert Specker

The Didital Collection in the press

Alexis Ibarra, El Mercurio (Chile), June 2002

"Interactive Publishing has a terrific World Cup news aggregation site" JD Lasica, New Media Musings June 2002

"Aussi peut-on saluer l'initiative de Norbert Specker, qui a lancé "Digital Collection"... une fois la Coupe du monde terminée, ce site constituera une mine pour les amateurs de football, mais aussi pour tous ceux qui pensent que le football est davantage qu'un sport." Claude Leblanc, Courrier International June 2002

"Norbert Specker's Interactive Publishing has created a digital collection of online World Cup coverage, searchable by title, match and language. It includes screen shots from online media sites from all 32 participating countries.. These are tremendously valuable projects in a business where so much material disappears so quickly." Cyberjournalist June 2002

"Every Ad Agency in London appears to have commissioned some form of World Cup related project. The scale of this bandwagon surfing is extraordinary - it's nature shameless. It was therefore nice to come across this very special project, that has actually been developed to serve a worthy purpose, and not simply flog a product." :: robert loch - Netmarketing Blog June 2002

"In Saudi Arabian news coverage of that country's 0-1 World Cup loss to Cameroon and resulting ouster from the competition, the Saudi team was called "improved." The New York Times said it "showed composure." The BBC, on the other hand, termed it "unlucky." When events of worldwide interest occur now in the age of online news distribution, there is an immediate opportunity to contrast media coverage on a global scale. The FIFA World Cup is such an event and Interactive Publishing's Digital Collection project is providing the venue for comparison. Screen captures from online news sites around the world are being archived as World Cup play progresses. The archives are indexed by game, country and language. A similar archive, with some 230 site images, was created and is still available for comparing online coverage of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks." Ifra Newsletter June 2002
